Verizon Business teams up with NASA for live solar eclipse broadcast: A quick turnaround success story in federal communications

Verizon Business Partners with NASA to Enable Live Broadcast of Solar Eclipse | Press Release

Verizon Business has joined forces with NASA to provide a network solution for the live broadcast of the upcoming solar eclipse on April 8. With assistance from Leidos, Verizon Business has set up a 1GB E-Line service between the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland and the John Glenn Space Center. This rapid provisioning effort was completed in less than 30 days, allowing NASA to test video and broadcast applications in preparation for the eclipse.

Michael Adams, associate vice president for federal civilian services at Verizon, highlighted the success of this project as a testament to the capabilities of the public sector team in delivering innovative solutions and technology for federal agencies like NASA. The quick turnaround time ensured that NASA will be able to share the eclipse broadcast with viewers around the world.

NASA will collect multiple video feeds from various locations in the United States, including telescope views and broadcast commentary, thanks to Verizon’s network connectivity. These feeds will be combined to create a comprehensive broadcast for NASA viewers globally.

Verizon has a strong partnership with the federal government, with recent contracts including a $15 million task order with the U.S. Navy’s Morale, Welfare, and Recreation agency and a nearly $450 million expansion of its partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers and healthcare facilities. These partnerships aim to provide essential communications infrastructure and support for disaster recovery missions and emergencies.
