WCK Resumes Humanitarian Operations in Gaza, Demanding Accountability for Attack on Its Workers

World Central Kitchen resumes operations in Gaza

The NGO World Central Kitchen announced on Sunday that it will resume its humanitarian operations in the Gaza Strip after an Israeli bombing killed seven of its employees and collaborators on April 1. Erin Gore, the head of the NGO, stated that they will restart their operations with the same energy and dedication to feeding as many people as possible. Despite receiving an apology from Israel for the attack, WCK is still demanding an impartial and international investigation into the incident to ensure accountability for those responsible.

Throughout the past weeks, WCK aid workers have faced difficult decisions about whether to continue delivering food during the crisis in Gaza, where aid workers and civilians are being intimidated and killed. Ultimately, the decision was made to continue with their mission of delivering food, even in the face of great challenges. With 276 trucks ready to transport almost eight million meals, WCK is prepared to enter through the Rafá crossing and explore other delivery options.

The WCK workers and collaborators were killed in a bombing raid as they left a warehouse in Gaza. The preliminary Israeli investigation claimed that they were mistaken for armed Hamas militiamen, leading to two officers being dismissed from Israeli forces. However, WCK remains committed to their mission of providing food aid to those in need in Gaza despite these challenges. In addition to their operations in Gaza, WCK is also exploring new sea corridors and ports for delivering food through Israel and Jordan.
