Wellstar MCG Health begins construction on new hospital in Columbia County

Wellstar is excited to announce the upcoming groundbreaking and beam signing ceremony for the highly anticipated Wellstar Columbia County Medical Center. The event will be attended by distinguished guests including the Honorable Brian Kemp, Governor of Georgia, along with other notable figures such as the First Lady of Georgia Marty Kemp, Sonny Perdue, Chancellor of the University System of Georgia, and more.

The new Wellstar Columbia County Medical Center is set to open in 2026 and will feature a full-service acute care hospital with 100 inpatient beds, an emergency department designed to be a Level II trauma center, a comprehensive surgical platform including operating rooms, labs, interventional radiology and endoscopy, and a 90,000-square-foot medical office building offering various specialties such as primary care and women’s health.

The center aims to provide residents of Columbia County and surrounding areas with access to the same world-class care offered by Wellstar MCG Health. The strategic location of the new hospital near I-20 will complement the resources already available at Wellstar MCG Health in Richmond County, further expanding access to high-quality healthcare in the region. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development from Wellstar.
