Rio Tinto Announces $9.3 Million Investment in Technology Startups

The Western Australian Government has teamed up with Founders Factory, a leading tech accelerator program, to invest in nature-tech start-ups that aim to preserve and restore biodiversity. This partnership will also pave the way for the first Australian hub of Founders Factory in Perth.

Founders Factory is an international company that operates in London, Johannesburg, Milan, Berlin, Bratislava, New York, and Singapore. With this new addition to their portfolio, Western Australia can become a hub for innovation in the global mining industry. Rio Tinto iron ore chief executive Simon Trott expressed his excitement about the potential for Western Australia to play a crucial role in this space.

This partnership is expected to provide local and international start-ups with investment opportunities and access to real-world testing and scaling assistance. This support will be instrumental in helping Western Australia’s innovation economy flourish. Western Australian Premier Roger Cook sees this as a significant achievement for the state and believes it represents a valuable opportunity for local businesses to gain exposure on an international level and increase their chances of success.
