When medical neglect leads to a soldier’s near-death experience: The story of a soldier who fell ill with bacterial infection in the IDF

Soldier nearly dies from septic shock after being diagnosed with virus

A soldier in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) fell ill with a bacterial infection four months after being drafted into the army, despite seeking medical help multiple times with symptoms including high fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea, sore throat, and breathing difficulties. Despite these symptoms, he was repeatedly told it was a common virus. Eventually, he was diagnosed with septic shock and received treatment to save his life.

The delay in diagnosing the bacterial infection caused significant harm to the soldier, ultimately leading the Ministry of Defense to acknowledge responsibility for his condition. As a result, he is now considered disabled by the IDF and will undergo a medical commission to determine his level of disability and entitlement to benefits.

Despite facing this challenging situation, the soldier remains focused on seeking justice and accountability for the harm he suffered. His story serves as a reminder of the importance of timely and accurate medical care, especially in critical situations like the one he experienced.
