CBS Sports’ 2024 Big Ten football head coach rankings: Where Luke Fickell ends up

Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell has been ranked No. 5 in CBS Sports’ Big Ten head coach rankings for the upcoming 2024 season. This ranking was done by Tom Fornelli, who placed Fickell behind only Ohio State’s Ryan Day, Oregon’s Dan Lanning, USC’s Lincoln Riley, and Penn State’s James Franklin.

Fickell is heading into his second full season as head coach of the Badgers, and he is determined to build on the success of the previous season where they finished with a 7-6 record and their 22nd straight bowl appearance. With recruiting on the rise since his arrival, UW’s 2025 class ranking No. 16 in the nation by 247Sports. The class includes six blue-chip players and an average player rating of 88.29.

The Badgers will face tough opponents like Alabama, Oregon, Penn State, USC, Iowa, and Nebraska during the 2024 season, with their schedule being ranked as the 24th-toughest in the nation according to ESPN FPI. Despite these challenges, Fickell is confident that he can continue showcasing the progress of the program this fall and make a mark on it.

Recruiting has been on the rise since Fickell’s arrival at UW with recruiting being at its peak with Hardy Watts committing to play for them in their class of 2025 making them number one in recruitment rankings for college football programs globally.
