Wisconsin Teachers Debra Heitman and Sheila Kohl Named Finalists for Presidential Award in Mathematics and Science Teaching”.

Teachers from Northeast Wisconsin are finalists for a prestigious national math and science award, says WTAQ News Talk on 97.5 FM and 1360 AM.

Coleman Elementary School teacher Debra Heitman and West De Pere Intermediate School teacher Sheila Kohl have been named finalists for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, respectively. This prestigious award, presented annually since 1983, recognizes K-12 teachers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and computer science.

Joining Heitman and Kohl as finalists are four other Wisconsin teachers. These educators represent various districts across the state and were chosen based on criteria required by the national PAEMST program. The applications from these finalists will be judged at the national level by a committee organized by the National Science Foundation on behalf of The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.

One awardee in mathematics and one awardee in science will receive a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation, as well as professional development opportunities. These teachers will also be honored at an award ceremony in Washington, D.C., where they will be celebrated for their outstanding contributions to education in their respective fields.
