World Central Kitchen, a nonprofit organization founded by celebrity chef José Andrés, will be resuming operations in the Gaza Strip after temporarily pausing them following an Israeli strike that killed seven of its workers earlier this month. The organization’s CEO, Erin Gore, stated that they are committed to continuing to provide food assistance in Gaza, including the northern part of the region, where the humanitarian situation is dire.
Gore emphasized that food is a universal right and that their work in Gaza has been vital in providing meals to those in need. With an arsenal of 276 trucks, equivalent to 8 million meals, World Central Kitchen plans to enter the region through various crossings and ports, including the Rafah crossing, Jordan, and the Port of Ashdod.
Israel has apologized for the attack that claimed the lives of the aid workers and has reportedly changed its rules of operations in response. However, the organization is still pressing for an independent investigation into the incident and for systemic changes to protect NGO workers serving in crisis situations.
