The WPIAL offices are buzzing with excitement as the steering committees gather to finalize the brackets for the district softball playoffs and boys and girls lacrosse tournaments. The 2024 WPIAL softball playoffs brackets will be unveiled on the WPIAL Playoff Pairings Show at 2 p.m. on Thursday, airing on Trib HSSN. Additionally, the baseball and boys volleyball playoffs brackets will be released on Friday, with the Baseball Playoff Pairing Show taking place at noon on Trib HSSN.
In Section 1-3A of the WPIAL Class 3A playoffs, Upper St. Clair has secured a berth in the postseason, but a tie with Bethel Park could determine the final spot in the field. Similarly, in Section 2-2A, Derry is vying for second place with Deer Lakes and could potentially join a four-way tie if they win their upcoming matchup.
The boys volleyball scene is equally competitive as several teams look to secure section titles or a share of them through wins on Thursday. In Section 2-3A, North Allegheny and Shaler are both contenders for first place and can earn a portion of the title with victories. Penn-Trafford and Norwin will face off in Section 3-3A and a win by either team could determine the section champion. North Catholic also has an opportunity to share the title in Section 1-2A with a win against Bishop Canevin. Finally, South Fayette can clinch the section championship in Section 3-2A with a victory over Thomas Jefferson on Thursday.
