Youth Villages Tackles Children’s Mental Health with Expert Guidance and Support: How to Recognize and Reduce Anxiety in Kids During Summer Break”.

Youth Villages launches campaign for Mental Health Awareness Month

As a non-profit organization focused on children’s emotional and behavioral health, Youth Villages in Meridian, Mississippi is leading the way in providing expertise and support for children and families. In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month in May, Youth Villages has launched a new series called “How Are You Feeling.”

The first week of May focuses on anxiety in children, especially as they engage in new activities during the summer and experience a break from their usual school routine. Dr. Alex Burton, a Licensed Program Expert at Youth Villages, emphasizes the importance of recognizing the signs of anxiety in children, such as irritability, changes in sleep patterns, loss of appetite, and disruptions in routine.

Parents who notice signs of anxiety in their children can take steps to reduce it. Creating a routine and incorporating regular, structured activities into a child’s day can help alleviate anxiety. Finding summer camps or activities that interest the child can also help them feel more comfortable and engaged, reducing their anxiety levels.

Throughout the month, Youth Villages’ clinical experts will be addressing various mental health topics, including trauma responses and mental health stigmas. This series aims to provide professional guidance and support to families as they navigate mental health challenges. Subscribe to their newsletter for more information and resources.
