2024: Sociologists Recognized for Outstanding Contributions in Science and Society

Premier Science Associations Honor Eight Sociologists

In April 2024, several sociologists were recognized by top science associations for their outstanding contributions to the field. The American Academy of Arts & Sciences elected six sociologists to its latest cohort of members, while the American Association for the Advancement of Science named two sociologists as fellows.

The new members of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences include Deborah Carr from Boston University, Bruce Carruthers from Northwestern University, Prudence Carter from Brown University, Manuel Castells from USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California, Adia Harvey Wingfield from Washington University in St. Louis, and Sasha Killewald from the University of Michigan. These scholars have been invited to join the academy to collaborate across disciplines and work towards advancing the common good.

In addition to these honors, Michelle J. Budig from the University of Massachusetts and Kathryn Yount from Emory University were named fellows by the American Association for the Advancement of Science for their distinguished work in advancing science or applying it for societal benefit.

The American Sociological Association (ASA), founded in 1905, is a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to supporting sociologists in their work, advancing sociology as a science and profession, and promoting its contributions and applications in society.
