A Farewell to Armadillo Grill: Another Longtime Downtown Raleigh Business Bids Adieu

Glenwood South restaurant to close after over 2 decades in business

Armadillo Grill on Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh has closed its doors after 22 years of serving customers. The owners announced the closure on social media, stating that the changing landscape of the restaurant industry and rising costs of doing business made it no longer feasible to continue operating at that location. However, they expressed their intention to find a new location to continue serving the Raleigh community while still offering catering services.

Despite the closure of its Glenwood Avenue location, Armadillo Grill’s flagship location in Carrboro will remain open for business. The closure of Armadillo Grill is just one example of a growing list of longtime downtown Raleigh businesses that have announced closures in recent months. Capital Club 16 recently closed its brick-and-mortar space on West Martin Street but plans to focus on onsite catering, pop-up events, and their food truck, The Wandering Wolf. Clouds Brewing is another business in downtown Raleigh that will be closing its taproom on North West Street, while their other taproom location on Front Street will remain open.

As businesses in the downtown Raleigh area continue to evolve and adapt to changing circumstances, the community will surely miss the presence of Armadillo Grill and other beloved establishments.
