Assistant City Manager Brandon Branham highlighted the concerning statistics of 1,000 cyclist deaths and 130,000 injuries in crashes across the country annually. He mentioned that with the use of cutting-edge technology, Peachtree Corners aims to prevent such incidents and increase overall road safety.
The city’s Curiosity Lab serves as a testing ground for these advanced tools. One of these tools being tested is the Spoke Companion App, which enables cyclists and drivers to see each other on the road. This technology aims to prevent injuries and fatalities by alerting both parties of potential collisions. The city plans to put it to the test during an upcoming pro cycling race.
By leveraging these advanced tools, Peachtree Corners hopes to see a decrease in fatalities and an increase in overall road safety. Recognizing that the technology is still emerging, the city is exploring additional measures such as digital signage to alert drivers and cyclists.
