Alaska Airlines Temporarily Grounds Flights Due to Weight and Balance System Issue

Delays persist as Alaska Airlines lifts ground stop

Due to an issue that occurred during a system upgrade, Alaska Airlines temporarily grounded its flights. The problem was related to the system that calculates the weight and balance of the aircraft. As a precautionary measure, the airline requested a ground stop for all Alaska and Horizon flights, which was put into effect at around 7:30 am Pacific Time. However, the issue was resolved, and the ground stop was lifted at 8:30 am PT.

The Federal Aviation Administration had also grounded Alaska Airlines flights nationwide at the airline’s request. The airline has since started releasing flights, but passengers should anticipate residual delays throughout the day. Alaska Airlines apologized for the inconvenience caused and advised passengers to check the status of their flights on their website or app before heading to the airport.
