French Bakers Create Record-Breaking Baguette, Giving Back to Society in Suresnes”.

French Bakers Reclaim Title for World’s Longest Baguette – DW – 05/06/2024

In the small town of Suresnes, a suburb of Paris, a team of 18 bakers created history by breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest baguette. The team’s creation was 143.53 meters long, beating the previous record by over 10 meters and reclaiming the title for France from bakers in Como, Italy. A Guinness World Records judge was present to confirm the record.

The French Confederation of Bakers and Pastry Chefs hosted the event where Dominique Anract, the President of the Confederation, stated that creating such a record required true spirit and collective sportsmanship. To meet Guinness rules, the baguette needed to be at least 5 centimeters thick and consistent in size with a standard baguette. It had to be made from wheat flour, water, salt, and yeast.

The baking process began early in the morning with 152 kilograms of ingredients used to create a massive 335-pound baguette. After being certified by Guinness officials, part of the baguette was distributed to onlookers while the rest was given to homeless people on the streets of Suresnes. The achievement highlights not only French artisan bakers’ craftsmanship but also their dedication towards giving back to society.

Suresnes Mayor Guillaume Boudy expressed pride in his town for hosting this historic event and called it a promotion of a national symbol of French gastronomy.
