Armed Bank Robberies Rattle Gaza Strip: How $66 Million in Shekels Were Stolen and What They Mean for the Future of the Community

Multiple Palestinian armed groups commit bank robberies in Gaza, seizing around 66 million euros

During the month of April, a series of bank robberies occurred in the Gaza Strip, with Palestinian armed groups carrying out the incidents. One of these robberies was carried out by individuals pretending to be Hamas, according to a report from French newspaper Le Monde. It is estimated that around 66 million euros were stolen during these incidents, which took place at various banks across the region.

On April 16th, employees at the main bank branch in Gaza City discovered a hole in the ceiling of one of the bank’s rooms. Upon investigation, it was found that earlier that day, unidentified individuals had entered the bank and stolen safes containing approximately 2.8 million euros in shekels. The following day, the robbers returned and blew up three safes, obtaining about 29 million euros. Just two days later, their total loot amounted to 33.6 million euros. Despite efforts by authorities to track down and apprehend the perpetrators, they were able to evade capture and disappear without a trace.

The people of Gaza are left shocked by these brazen acts and the scale of thefts that took place in their community. The impact of these crimes will undoubtedly be felt for years to come as people struggle to recover from this devastating loss. Authorities are currently investigating these incidents but no arrests have been made yet in connection with them.
