Batten College Earns Bronze-Level Status in ASEE’s Diversity Recognition Program: Celebrating Commitment to Inclusivity and Equity

Recognition of Batten College of Engineering and Technology for Promoting Diversity

The Batten College of Engineering and Technology has recently earned Bronze-level status in the American Society for Engineering Education’s Diversity Recognition Program. This program acknowledges engineering and engineering technology colleges that have made significant progress in promoting diversity, inclusion, and degree attainment within their programs.

To be considered for this program, colleges must develop a comprehensive diversity plan that outlines their goals for diversity and inclusiveness, assesses their needs, establishes priorities, mandates equity training, implicit bias training, and inclusion training, holds themselves accountable, and utilizes surveys to evaluate the effectiveness of their efforts.

Stacie Ringleb, the associate dean for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access at the College, expressed pride in the alignment of the Batten College’s efforts with the College’s Strategic Plan and Old Dominion University’s Monarch Plan for Inclusive Excellence. She emphasized that the College is honored to be recognized by the ASEE for their dedication to diversity initiatives.

As part of their recognition, the Batten College will be permitted to display a special badge on their marketing materials and website for the duration of a three-year term.
