Boosting Youth Development: The Boothbay Sea and Science Center Brings Hands-on Learning to the Waterfront

Founder of the Boothbay Sea and Science Center to Present at Boothbay Region Garden Club Meeting

The Boothbay Sea and Science Center (BSSC) is a community education center that offers affordable access to the waterfront for youth. Founded by Pauline Dion, the center provides programs focused on sailing, boating, and marine science that are not available through other regional organizations. BSSC aims to create opportunities for students, instructors, and teachers through hands-on learning experiences, developing lifelong skills, and creating career pathways in STEM fields.

Pauline Dion is a dedicated advocate for non-profit organizations and a dynamic speaker. She has experience in fundraising and serves on the Board of Directors for several local non-profits. As a lifelong sailor, she chaired the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club Junior Sailing and Tennis programs from 2005 – 2012. With a background in nursing, Pauline holds a bachelor’s degree from Salve Regina College and a master’s degree from Boston College School of Nursing.

Collaborating with marine businesses, schools, social service agencies, and marine research agencies, BSSC has created innovative and affordable education programs for youth ages 5-17. They have worked closely with Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, with scientists actively participating in program development and serving on the Board of Directors and Advisory Board.

The public is invited to attend the upcoming monthly meeting of the Boothbay Region Garden Club on Wednesday, May 8 at 12:30 p.m., where Pauline Dion will be speaking about her work at the Boothbay Sea and Science Center. Light refreshments will be served at St. Columba’s Episcopal Church located at 32 Emery Lane in Boothbay Harbor. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from Pauline Dion about her work at BSSC!
