Breaking Down Barriers: The Community Foundation Tampa Bay Grants $15,000 for Summer Science Splash Camp Scholarships

Eckerd College Summer Science Splash Camp receives $22K grant to support STEM education for disadvantaged students

The Community Foundation Tampa Bay has granted $15,000 to Eckerd College for the Summer Science Splash Camp. This funding will be used to offer partial or full scholarships to campers from low-income families. The amount of the scholarship will be determined based on financial need, and currently, 32 families are receiving scholarship assistance, accounting for about one-third of all campers.

Kristen Rynerson, the conference and pre-college coordinator at Eckerd, is excited about the number of scholarships offered for the camp. She acknowledges that the cost of the overnight residential camp can be prohibitive for some families, but providing financial assistance allows marginalized students to access important STEM summer programming that they might not otherwise be able to afford.

The Community Foundation Tampa Bay is a 501(c)(3) public charity that aims to connect people and resources to create meaningful and lasting impact. Their mission involves supporting initiatives that benefit the community and provide opportunities for those in need. By providing scholarships for the Summer Science Splash Camp, they are helping to level the playing field and ensure that all students have access to important educational opportunities.
