Tang Qianting Sets New 100 Breast Asian Record with Time of 1:04.68

At the 2024 Chinese National Swimming Championships, Tang Qianting set a new Asian record in the women’s 100m breaststroke event. At just 20 years old, Tang swam the fastest time of her life, finishing in 1:04.68 and breaking the 1:05 barrier for the first time. Previously, Tang had held the Chinese national record of 1:05.27, which she set at the World Championships in Doha earlier that year.

Tang’s performance tonight was not only a personal best but also surpassed the previous Asian Record of 1:05.19 set by Japan’s Reona Aoki at the 2022 Japanese World Championships Trials. In comparison to current world record holder Lilly King’s time of 1:04.13 set in 2017, Tang was quicker on the way out, making her performance even more impressive. With this achievement, Tang is now ranked as the fifth-fastest swimmer in history for women’s LCM (Long Course Meter) 100 Breaststroke event.
