Business Insider Editor-in-Chief Steps Down, Leaving Legacy Behind

Editor-in-Chief of Business Insider, Nicholas Carlson, Resigns

Business Insider Editor-in-Chief Nicholas Carlson has announced that he is stepping down from his position at the company. Despite resigning from the editor-in-chief role, Carlson will remain with Business Insider as an editor-at-large, focusing on longer-term reporting and projects. CEO Barbara Peng praised Carlson for his contributions to Business Insider and announced that the company would begin the search for a new editor-in-chief to replace him.

In an internal memo to staff, Carlson emphasized that his decision to step down had nothing to do with criticism of Business Insider’s journalism. He mentioned the outlet’s recent reporting on Neri Oxman’s work, which drew backlash from billionaire Bill Ackman. Carlson expressed confidence in the future of Business Insider, highlighting a clear editorial strategy and a commitment to the brand’s target audience.

Peng thanked Carlson for his leadership and the impact he had on the newsroom. An Axel Springer spokesperson commended Carlson for enabling Business Insider to become an award-winning newsroom with a global readership. The search for a new editor-in-chief will be led by CEO Barbara Peng, with the aim of continuing Business Insider’s commitment to high-quality journalism. Initial reports of Carlson’s resignation were first reported by Semafor on Tuesday.
