Chalking Up Support: Community-Wide Event Tackles Children’s Mental Health Awareness

Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week: Chalk the Walk in Southern Maryland May 6-11, 2024

The “Chalk the Walk” event, organized by Calvert County Family Network (CCFN) and Department of Parks & Recreation in collaboration with local organizations and businesses, aims to raise awareness for children’s mental health during Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week from May 5-11. Participants are encouraged to use chalk to create drawings, positive messages, and words of encouragement on designated public sidewalks or their own property.

The goal of the event is to promote awareness, reduce stigma, and facilitate open conversations about children’s mental health and overall well-being. Residents can share their artwork using the hashtag #CalvertMentalHealthMatters on social media. Several drop-in chalk events will be held from May 6-11 at locations such as the Calvert County Circuit Courthouse, Calvert Library branches, CalvertHealth Medical Center, Calvert County Behavioral Health locations, Calvert County Parks & Recreation Community Centers, and the Community Resources Building in Prince Frederick.
