Health department probes near drowning incident at New York water park

In an alarming incident over the weekend, a 5-year-old child nearly drowned at Six Flags Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Waterpark in Queensbury, New York. The child was found unresponsive in the water and was quickly transported to a nearby hospital where they are currently in stable condition.

The New York State Department of Health is currently investigating the incident, with the Glens Falls District Office handling the investigation. According to Monica Pomeroy, public information officer for the state health department, drowning incidents at regulated bathing facilities in New York are typically investigated by local health departments or state district offices.

Six Flags Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Waterpark has been in operation since 2006 and is owned by Six Flags. The response to the incident involving the child was carried out with the assistance of West Glens Falls EMS, Queensbury Central Fire, and the New York State Police, in addition to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office. The state health department’s investigation will determine the cause of the incident and any necessary actions to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
