Community Science Update: Shaping the Future of the Damariscotta River with Sustainable Seafood Production in Mind

Marine Conservation Science Update from the Leslie Lab

The spring Community Science Update includes a collaboration with the Damariscotta-Newcastle Joint Shellfish Committee to discuss the values and visions for the future of the Damariscotta River. Through focus group discussions, participants will explore questions such as what they value about the river and how people’s use and perceptions of the river may change in the future. The information gathered will be summarized for the Shellfish Committee and others interested in planning for a more resilient and sustainable future for the river and its stakeholders.

This research is made possible by a grant from the US Department of Commerce, specifically the NOAA Saltonstall-Kennedy Program. The project aims to support sustainable and local seafood production in Maine by engaging the community in scientific research. Those interested in learning more about the project can find additional information available on the project’s website.
