Devastating Storms Leave Starnberg Flooded: An Inside Look at the Aftermath

The district town of Starnberg experienced violent storms that led to flooding throughout the city. A large thunderstorm front moved across southern Bavaria from Munich, causing hailstorms and heavy rainfall. The fire departments were very busy with over 50 missions, leading to the closure of the B2 road. In just five minutes, up to seven liters of water per square meter fell, leading to flooded basements, impassable streets, and stranded drivers.

The intensity of the storm caused a significant disruption in daily life in Starnberg. The sewerage system was overwhelmed by the masses of water, and mud even shot onto the streets in Sensau. Other areas, such as Pöcking, also required the deployment of the fire brigade to address flooding. The district town was particularly affected, with some streets having to be closed due to the floods.

To address the situation, neighboring fire departments came to Starnberg to provide support, and the district fire inspection set up its operations center in the district office. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the storm did force the cancellation of the French Week opening in Starnberg.
