Discovering the World of STEM: Eugene A. Tighe Middle School’s Engaging Learning Experience

Margate students participate in science and math activities at Tighe School STEM Night

On Wednesday, April 10, 2024, students from Eugene A. Tighe Middle School took part in an engaging and interactive learning experience through STEM Night. This event was attended by fifth and sixth graders along with their families who participated in a variety of STEM-based activities that were both educational and enjoyable.

The activities were organized at different stations, each with instructions, materials, and an explanation of the expected outcomes for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics exercises. Members of the school’s National Junior Honor Society volunteered to help out at each station, offering guidance and support to the participants.

As they completed each station, students received a sticker on their “STEM Passport” to signify their completion of the tasks. It took approximately 45 minutes to an hour for students to finish all the activities set up in the gymnasium.

Some of the activities featured during STEM Night included building the tallest structure using paper and tape, exploring optical illusions, conducting a bottle flipping experiment, constructing Newton’s Disc, playing rocks and minerals Bingo, examining a real sheep’s brain
