Divided Croatia: Peaceful Prayer Gatherings Meet Resistance from Counter-Protesters

Protesters don recordings in mock investigation, tell kneelers: ‘This woman died because of the system!’

In Croatia, every first Saturday of the month, supplicants gather in squares to pray. This time, they gathered on Trg ban Jelačića, as well as in Šibenik, Trogir, and other locations. However, their peaceful gathering was met with resistance from counter-protesters who stood in front of them, beating drums and unfurling banners.

The counter-protesters wrote messages on the floor and stuck tape as if for inspection, highlighting the tragic story of a woman who was killed by those who preached that marriage is sacred. The clash between the supplicants and the counter-protesters resulted in a tense atmosphere, with both sides standing firm in their beliefs.

Despite the tensions, both sides remained determined to stand up for what they believed in. Onlookers watched from a distance, unsure of how the situation would unfold. The echoes of the drums and the chants filled the air, creating a sense of urgency and importance to the events taking place. In the end, both the supplicants and the counter-protesters remained steadfast in their convictions, unwilling to back down in the face of opposition.
