WhatsApp’s Anti-Spam Feature: Combatting Virtual Scams and Improving Event Planning with New Tools

WhatsApp introduces new feature to combat spam and virtual scams

WhatsApp, a widely used communication application by over 2 billion people, has introduced new anti-spam protection features to combat the issue of virtual scams and spam accounts. The system automatically suspends accounts that engage in spamming activities without requiring users to report them.

The anti-spam feature was discovered by WABetainfo in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android. The system aims to prevent fraudulent accounts from distributing fake business offers, job scams, or suspicious messages. Suspended accounts will receive a notification explaining that recent activity on their account suggests spam or automated messages.

While suspended accounts will not be able to start new conversations, they will still be able to receive and send messages in existing chats and groups. This temporary suspension allows users to correct their actions and avoid repeating the behavior that led to the suspension.

In addition to the anti-spam feature, WhatsApp has also introduced new tools for organizing events and facilitating responses in ad groups. These improvements allow users to create events directly on WhatsApp, such as virtual meetings or birthday celebrations, and enable group members to RSVP to the event. Event details can be found on the group’s information page, and attendees will receive notifications as the event approaches.

These new features will first be available in Community groups before being extended to all groups in the future. Responses in ad groups will be organized and minimized so that users can see others’ opinions in context. Notifications for these responses will be muted for all group members, creating a more streamlined and organized communication experience within WhatsApp groups.
