Driving Innovation for a Technologically Advanced Italy: National Cybersecurity Agency’s Emphasis on SME Support

Italy shifts focus to technological innovation and cybersecurity

The National Cybersecurity Agency’s Director General, Bruno Frattasi, emphasized the importance of innovation in creating a State that leads in technological advancements. This message was highlighted during the event ‘Cybersecurity: opportunities and challenges for Italian start-ups and SMEs,’ organized by the agency.

The event began with a speech from Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council, Alfredo Mantovano, who emphasized the need for Italy to become a key player in global technological transformation. Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, and Minister of Business and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, also addressed the audience.

Prefect Frattasi stressed the importance of supporting young entrepreneurial ventures, start-ups, and SMEs in their pursuit of innovation to drive technological and digital development in the country. The agency has established a ‘network of operators’ through a public notice procedure to collaborate on programs supporting innovation and applied research in technological areas of interest.

In addition to this collaboration effort, the National Cybersecurity Agency aims to steer technological innovation towards achieving strategic autonomy in the national and European context by mid-2024. To do so, it plans to focus on universities and research institutes while promoting further funding calls. By combining ‘Made in Italy’ with technological development, this initiative aims to secure a promising future for innovation.
