Dube’s Resurgence and Singh’s Struggles: Analyzing India’s T20 World Cup Selection

Solving the conundrum of India’s T20 World Cup squad: A big name left out

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 has gained a lot of attention with the appointment of Yuvraj Singh as its ambassador. During a recent interview, Yuvraj correctly predicted the inclusion of Shivam Dube in the squad.

Shivam Dube, who is 30 years old, has been a consistent performer in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has seen a resurgence in his career since joining the Chennai Super Kings in 2022. In the previous IPL season, he achieved a personal milestone by scoring over 400 runs for the first time. His form has only improved since then, with him already accumulating 350 runs in the ongoing IPL season in just nine matches, with an impressive strike rate of 172.41.

One of the notable improvements in Dube’s game has been his ability to handle pace bowlers, an aspect that was previously overshadowed by his reputation as a spin-hitter. This development has further solidified his case for being a part of the T20 World Cup squad.

On the other hand, Rinku Singh, who was once considered a promising player in India’s T20I lineup, has found himself out of contention for the T20 World Cup squad. Despite an impressive average and strike rate in his international matches, Rinku’s form has dipped in the current IPL season with Kolkata Knight Riders. He has scored only 120 runs in nine games, leading to his relegation to the reserve list for the upcoming tournament.
