Egyptian Mediators Work Toward Bringing Israel and Hamas Closer to Truce Despite Roadblocks

No Agreement Reached as Israeli and Hamas Delegations Walk Away from Negotiations in Cairo

After a two-day round of indirect talks in Cairo, delegations from the Islamist group Hamas and Israel left the Egyptian capital without any apparent results. Despite this setback, Egypt, Qatar, and the United States continue to work towards bringing Israel and Hamas closer to a truce proposal accepted by Hamas on Monday.

The withdrawal of Hamas from Cairo was attributed to Israel’s invasion of Rafah and the seizure of the border crossing. The group affirmed its commitment to accepting the mediators’ document while condemning Israeli aggression. Egyptian state television Al Qahera News reported that representatives from Islamic Jihad and other Palestinian factions joined the negotiations on Thursday, indicating progress in resolving controversial points.

The truce proposal accepted by Hamas includes three phases leading to an exchange of hostages, Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and sustainable calm in the Strip. However, significant challenges remain as efforts are being made to find consensus and prevent further escalation in the region. Despite these challenges, there is hope that an agreement will be reached soon.
