Employment Gap on Sicily: Government Takes Steps to Bridge the Divide with ‘The Work Travels with Us!’ Event

43% of job positions in Sicily remain unfilled due to lack of qualified candidates

Sicily is facing a shortage of qualified candidates for job positions in various sectors, with 42.7% of positions remaining vacant due to a lack of suitable candidates. Despite this, job opportunities are still available and the government is taking steps to encourage hiring of young people, women, and individuals over 35 in the South SEZ area through the introduction of the new “Employment Superbonus.”

To connect job supply and demand, the National Foundation for Labor Consultants has organized a national event called “The work travels with us!” in collaboration with the National Association of Young Labor Consultants and the Provincial Order of Labor Consultants. The final stage of this event will take place in Messina’s Piazza Duomo, where specialized professionals will provide guidance and orientation to young people on choosing study paths that align with the demands of the job market.

Activities such as group sessions, workshops, and thematic lessons on workplace safety and ethical work will be offered. Participants will also learn about employment opportunities and active policies available in the area, and explore platforms like “Sorprendo” to better understand their skills and the job market.

The event will feature discussions with industry experts and business leaders such as Luigi Rizzolo, Vincenzo Silvestri, Luca Paone, Enrico Limardo, Messina Mayor Federico Basile. The aim is to provide valuable insights on the current job market, most sought-after professions, and opportunities for career development in the region. By bridging the gap between job seekers and potential employers
