ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler Reports Possible Cowboys Reunion with Ezekiel Elliott: A Complicated Love Story

Mutual Interest in Reunion Between Cowboys and Ezekiel Elliott Reported

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, there have been talks between the Cowboys and free agent running back Ezekiel Elliott about a possible reunion. This news is not surprising given that both parties have a need for each other. The Cowboys are looking for a veteran running back after letting Tony Pollard go in free agency, while Elliott needs a job after being released by the Patriots last March. However, even if they sign Elliott, it’s likely that the Cowboys will still look to draft a running back to start for them. Currently, the team has Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, Malik Davis, and Snoop Conner on their roster at the running back position.

Elliott, who will turn 29 this summer, spent the first seven years of his career with the Cowboys before being released last March. Despite having career lows in several statistical categories last season, Elliott still led the team in rushing yards and receptions. Most of his work came in the final six weeks of the season due to an injury to Rhamondre Stevenson where Elliott had significant touches and production.

Selected fourth overall in the 2016 draft, Elliott has achieved Pro Bowl honors three times and led the league in rushing in two of his first three seasons. Although his performance has declined recently, there may be mutual benefits for both parties if they decide to reunite with each other on the field once again.
