Fear and Hatred as Weapons: The Dark Side of Immigration Criticism in the US”.

Editorial: The Economy’s Dependence on Immigrants

The current presidential candidate has been criticized for using fear and hate as weapons to silence dissent and undermine the rule of law. His rhetoric suggests that everyone, regardless of their legal status or ethnicity, should be seen as a threat. This includes immigrants, who are portrayed as criminals, murderers, rapists, and gang members who are here to cause harm.

However, statistics show that the surge of immigration beginning in 2022 has actually led to significant economic growth in the United States following the pandemic. Immigrants have contributed greatly to GDP and tax revenues, and this growth is expected to continue. In contrast to the current candidate’s views, former President Ronald Reagan once spoke about the importance of new arrivals and their contributions to the nation. He emphasized the energy, new ideas, and leadership that immigrants bring.

Jerry Hanson from Elkhorn shared these sentiments, urging readers to put fear and hatred aside in order to progress as a nation. If you would like to share your thoughts with the editor, send your letter to tctvoice@madison.com including your full name
