Finland: The Happiest Country in the World for the 7th Year Running

UN’s 2024 World Happiness Report Reveals the World’s Happiest Countries

Finland has once again been named the happiest country in the world for the seventh consecutive year. The UN-sponsored World Happiness Report, which looks at six major factors that impact a population’s contentment, has revealed that Finland’s top ranking can be attributed to its beautiful nature, generous annual holiday allowances, resilience, and love for sauna.

Miika Mäkitalo, CEO of HappyOrNot and a proud Finn, highlighted the positive aspects of living and working in Finland. Despite the cold and dark weather, the Finnish concept of ‘sisu’ (meaning resilience or grit) and the love for sauna help keep spirits high. Factors like age categories were factored into the report for the first time, revealing that Lithuania has the most content under 30-year-olds while Denmark leads for over-60s.

The World Happiness Report also revealed that Nordic countries dominate the top rankings, with Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, and Norway in the top five spots. However, European countries occupy 14 of the top spots overall. Additionally, job opportunities like a luxury room service reviewer are on the rise in Europe destinations for 2024.
