Miami is the new location for Fleet Week this year, as the U.S. military has shifted its focus towards bringing the event to South Florida. The week of events kicked off on Sunday at the Frost Museum of Science, where attendees were treated to a free performance by the U.S. Navy Band. Visitors also had the chance to meet sailors and Marines, witness real K-9 training demonstrations, and learn more about how science plays a vital role in naval operations from Dr. Cassie Freund, the director of science communication at Frost Science.

With over 3,000 members from the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard participating in Fleet Week, South Florida has become a hub of military activity. Four ships from the Navy have docked at PortMiami, adding excitement to an already bustling city.

The presence of the Navy in Miami allows for demonstrations and showcases that highlight how science plays a crucial role in naval operations. It’s been many years since Fleet Week was last held in Miami, making it a special occasion for both the military and community alike.
