Four Remarkable San Antonians Elevated to the Class of 2024 in Sports Hall of Fame

Texas A&M legends Anjanette Kirkland and Andrea Williams were recently inducted into the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2024. The induction ceremony took place at the Henry B. González Convention Center.

Kirkland, a graduate of Holmes High School in San Antonio, had an illustrious career as a hurdler while competing for the Texas A&M track and field team from 1993-97. She won numerous titles and accolades during her time at Texas A&M, including being named Female Performer of the Year at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships in 1997. Kirkland currently coaches track and field at Cypress Woods High School in Houston.

Williams, who attended Churchill High School, was a trailblazer at Texas A&M, becoming the first athlete to letter in both volleyball and basketball in the same year. She helped lead her teams to the NCAA Sweet 16 in both sports. After her athletic career, Williams pursued a successful career in sports administration, currently serving as the Chief Experience Officer for the NBA’s Utah Jazz.

Jim Rackley, former Converse Judson High School football coach, was also inducted into the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2024. Rackley led his team to multiple state championships and has been recognized with numerous coaching awards throughout his career. Julius Whittier, the first Black football letterman at the University of Texas, rounded out the Class of 2024 with his contributions to football and advocacy for diversity and inclusion in sports.

Each member of this class has made significant contributions to their respective fields and left a lasting legacy on their communities.
