From a mere also-ran to a major hub: The meteoric rise of Felipe Ángeles International Airport

AIFA sees a 100% increase in passenger traffic within a year

Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) has experienced a significant increase in passenger traffic over the past year, making it the sixth largest airport in Mexico. Despite this growth, AIFA still does not rank among the top 10 airports for international traffic. In February 2024, AIFA transported over 335 thousand passengers, which is more than double the number reported in February 2023.

The increase in passenger traffic at AIFA is partly due to the reduction of operations at the International Airport of Mexico City. Additionally, international operations at AIFA also saw an increase of over 141 percent in passengers served. However, despite these increases, AIFA still does not rank among the main airports in Mexico for international service.

From February 2023 to 2024, AIFA saw a significant growth in the number of passengers transported on international routes. The airport now offers operations to destinations in several countries including the United States, Colombia, Brazil, Qatar, Turkey, Germany and Guatemala among others. Despite this growth, AIFA still ranks below other airports in Mexico for international service.

Overall, the growth in passenger traffic at Felipe Ángeles International Airport reflects its increasing importance in Mexico’s aviation industry. With continued development and expansion, AIFA has the potential to become a major hub for domestic and international travel in the future.
