Resources for Mental Health Awareness Month Offered by SLO County

Over 25% of Americans struggle with mental health issues, which includes therapists like Brooke Clever. Clever, who helps patients set up recovery goals and strategies, speaks from her own experiences managing anxiety and depression. By sharing her journey, Clever aims to break down the stigmas surrounding mental health and connect with her clients on a deeper level.

Last year, Transitions-Mental Health Association in San Luis Obispo provided services to over 5,300 individuals and their families. Michael Kaplan, the community engagement director at Transitions-Mental Health Association emphasizes the importance of mental health awareness, especially during May, which is Mental Health Awareness Month. Despite the challenges of mental illness, there are various resources available for support, including hotlines, wellness centers, and community events like the Open Minds Community Art Show.

Jill Bolster-White, the executive director at Transitions-Mental Health Association highlights the intensive services provided for those seeking stability in their mental health journey. Clever emphasizes the significance of community support and notes that mental health challenges can be isolating but do not have to be faced alone. For those who suspect someone they know may be struggling, the Central Coast Hotline is available 24/7 at 1-800-783-0607.

Throughout May, Transitions-Mental Health Association will be hosting several events to promote mental wellness. The Open Minds Community Art Show will showcase the connection between art and mental wellness while three wellness center open houses will provide opportunities for individuals to learn more about the resources available to support their mental health needs. These events provide opportunities for education, connection, and community support in the journey towards mental wellbeing.
