From High School to the College World Series: The Rising Star of Sports Broadcasting, Makenzie Knight

Passionate about sports reporting, East Central senior Makenzie Knight pursues her dreams.

Makenzie Knight, a senior at East Central High School, has always had a passion for sports and storytelling. While most students leave the stadium after a game, Knight stays behind to conduct postgame interviews with her classmates on the baseball team and beyond. She started this initiative back in 2022 and has received a great deal of support from the community, coaches, and athletes.

Makenzie’s love for sports broadcasting began early on in her career as she honed her interviewing skills by conducting post-game interviews with her peers on the baseball team. Her passion for this work was recognized by local publication 228 Sports, which offered her the opportunity to cover other schools, teams, and sports. This expansion allowed Makenzie to step out of her comfort zone and grow in her career as she made new connections and followed the athletic journeys of individuals across the coast.

In the fall, Makenzie plans to attend Mississippi State to pursue a degree in sports broadcasting. Her ultimate goal is to work with an MLB team and cover the College World Series. She is open to following wherever her career in sports broadcasting may take her, trusting in God’s plan for her future. With determination and dedication, Makenzie Knight is sure to make a lasting impact in the world of sports broadcasting.
