From Olympic Gold to World Record: The Journey of Aregawi in Athletics

Ethiopia’s Berihu Aregawi Sets Sights on World Cross Country Gold Ahead of Paris 2024 Olympics

In 2018, Aregawi achieved significant victories by winning the 3000m gold at the African Youth Games, securing silver at the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games, and earning the 10,000m bronze at the World U20 championship. These successes marked a breakthrough in his athletic career and set the stage for his future accomplishments.

In 2019, Aregawi’s confidence received a boost when he won the Great Ethiopian 10km run, coming close to breaking the course record. This victory served as a stepping stone for him as he transitioned into competing at the senior level, where he faced tougher competition and greater challenges. Despite his achievements, Aregawi has faced some disappointments, narrowly missing out on winning a medal at his debut Olympics with a fourth-place finish in Tokyo. He also fell short of securing his first World Championship medals in Oregon and Budapest, coming close but ultimately not reaching the podium.

Despite these setbacks, Aregawi remained determined and focused on achieving his goals in the sport he loves. In 2021, he broke the 5km world record on the road, marking a significant milestone in his career. Additionally, a silver medal at Bathurst further solidified his aspirations of becoming one of the top athletes in his field. Reflecting on his accomplishments, Aregawi expressed gratitude for the valuable experiences gained from his races
