Richard Joseph Jackson, MD, MPH, FAAP, HonAIA, HonFASLA presents Grand Rounds in Population and Public Health Sciences

Richard J. Jackson, MD, MPH, FAAP, HonAIA, HonFASLA is a Professor emeritus at the Fielding School of Public Health at the University of California, Los Angeles. He has served as State Health Officer for the California Health Department and as Director of the CDC’s National Center for Environmental Health. Jackson has received numerous awards for his contributions to public health and environmental advocacy and has authored several books on the impact of urban sprawl and designing healthy communities.

The Department of Population and Public Health Sciences is hosting an event titled “Climate Change is Among the Greatest Challenges Facing Humanity: The Responses Must Benefit All People and the Natural World.” The event will discuss the impact of a heating planet on modern life, including increased heat waves, febrile oceans, storm violence, lost insurance, wildfires, smoke-filled air, asocial behavior, and an epidemic of loneliness.

The speaker for the event will be Richard J. Jackson himself. He will explore the underlying forces that can lead to improved health and potentially happiness in response to physical environmental changes brought on by climate change. The panelists for this important discussion will be announced at a later date.
