From Prison to Passion: Tuan Huynh’s Journey to Bringing Vietnamese Coffee to Chicago

Owner of West Loop coffee shop shares Vietnamese culture and heritage through menu items – NBC Chicago

Tuan Huynh’s love for Vietnamese coffee began in his family’s farm in Vietnam. Now, he serves up a cup of that same coffee at Vietfive Coffee in Chicago’s West Loop. Huynh, who opened the business two years ago, aims to share his heritage and pay tribute to his roots by bringing Robusta coffee to the U.S. The response has been overwhelming since the shop opened, with unique flavors and blends that allow customers to experience a taste of Vietnam.

But Huynh’s journey to opening Vietfive Coffee wasn’t easy. Coming from a troubled background and serving a prison sentence before turning his life around, he now works to inspire others in Chicago through collaborations with community groups and organizations. He creates spaces for conversations about representation and invites customers to become part of his story with every cup of coffee he serves.

Huynh’s passion for Vietnamese coffee drives everything he does at Vietfive Coffee. He builds a community through outreach and initiatives that bring people together over a love of coffee and Vietnamese culture.
