Hubble Space Telescope: Navigating Challenges with Limited Gyros

Hubble Space Telescope Halts Scientific Observations Amid Gyro Problem Identified by NASA

During the final servicing mission in 2009, Hubble Space Telescope received six new gyros. Currently, only three of these gyros are still operational, with one experiencing fluctuations. Despite being designed to use three gyros for maximum efficiency, it is possible to continue conducting scientific observations with just one gyro if necessary. The team responsible for the telescope is now working tirelessly to find solutions to this issue and ensure the continued success of Hubble Space Telescope. In November, a faulty reading caused the spacecraft to go into safe mode due to a malfunctioning gyro. However, if needed, the spacecraft can be adjusted to function with only one gyro while keeping the other faulty gyro in reserve.
