Indian Weightlifter Bindyarani Devi Wins Bronze at IWF World Cup 2024

Bronze medal is won by Bindyarani Devi

Indian weightlifter Bindyarani Devi clinched a bronze medal at the IWF World Cup 2024 in Phuket, Thailand on Tuesday. She competed in the non-Olympic women’s 55kg category and achieved a total lift of 196kg (83kg snatch + 113kg clean and jerk) to finish third overall.

Bindyarani Devi faced challenges in the snatch but managed to succeed on her second attempt. Although she fell short on her final attempt, she excelled in the clean and jerk with lifts of 110kg and 113kg. Unfortunately, her last attempt to lift 119kg was unsuccessful.

The gold medal at the event was won by Kang Hyon Gyong of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, who lifted a total of 234kg (103kg snatch + 131kg clean and jerk). Mihaela Cambei of Romania secured the silver medal with a personal best of 201kg (91kg + 110kg).

In addition to her bronze medal in the overall category, Bindyarani Devi also earned a silver medal in the clean and jerk segment. She currently holds the 29th position in the Olympic Qualification Ranking for the women’s 59kg, and the top 10 lifters in each weight category secure a quota for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Mirabai Chanu, another Indian weightlifter, competed in the women’s 49kg category in Phuket and finished in twelfth place. Ranked second overall, she is expected to secure a quota for India at the Paris
