Injured Young Swede Ludvig Åberg Withdraws from Wells Fargo Championship to Rest Knee Ahead of PGA Championship

Ludvig Åberg pulls out of Wells Fargo due to knee injury

Ludvig Åberg, currently ranked sixth in the Official World Golf Ranking, has announced that he will not be competing in the Wells Fargo Championship due to a knee injury. The 24-year-old Swede expressed his disappointment at missing the event at Quail Hollow Club but stated that he needed to rest his knee after consulting with his doctors. Despite this setback, he is looking forward to playing in the PGA Championship next week.

In his last major appearance at the Masters, Åberg finished as the runner-up. His first career major start ended in an impressive second-place finish at Augusta National. He followed that performance with a T-10 finish the following week at the RBC Heritage. Unfortunately, Åberg did not specify which knee was injured but confirmed that he had not played since finishing as the runner-up at the Masters.

With Åberg withdrawing from the Wells Fargo Championship, Peter Malnati will take his spot in the field through the Aon Next 10. This will keep the total number of players in the tournament at 69. Åberg’s absence is a disappointment for golf fans, as he has quickly risen through the ranks to become one of the top players in the world. Nonetheless, his focus is now on recovering from his knee injury and preparing for the upcoming PGA Championship.
