Canada arrests suspects linked to murder blamed on India

In June of 2019, the murder of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar occurred in Canada. The crime was attributed to the Indian government by Ottawa authorities, leading to diplomatic tensions between the two countries. Recently, three men were arrested by Canadian police in connection with the murder. The suspects, Kamalpreet Singh, Karanpreet Singh, and Karan Brar, are all Indian citizens and have been charged with aggravated murder and conspiracy according to court documents filed in Surrey, British Columbia.

During a news conference, Mandeep Mooker, superintendent of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, announced that they are investigating any possible links the suspects may have had with the Indian government. The investigation revealed that the suspects were part of a group of hired killers possibly involved in three other murders in Canada. Nijjar was a supporter of the creation of Khalistan, an independent Sikh country in Punjab, India and had been labeled as a terrorist by the Indian government.
