Local High School Students Shine at Virginia Science Fair, Earning International Recognition

Fairfax students dominate at Virginia science and engineering fair

At the 2024 Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair, three students from renowned high schools in Fairfax, Virginia, were awarded grand prizes. These students, Wesley Kang from James Madison High School, Anant Khandelwal, Sritan Motati, and Siddhant Sood from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology, and Gabriela Konde from George C. Marshall High School, have earned the opportunity to compete at the International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles.

At the International Science and Engineering Fair, these talented young scientists will showcase their projects to a global audience. Wesley Kang’s project on predicting wastewater-induced earthquakes using a unique mathematical model is truly remarkable. Anant Khandelwal, Sritan Motati, and Siddhant Sood’s project on diffusion-based conditional mesh synthesis for efficient 3D prototyping is equally impressive. Gabriela Konde’s project on optimal sound frequencies for eradicating E. coli biofilm on medical devices is another outstanding achievement.

A total of seventy-eight students from Fairfax’s school system participated in the state-level competition.
