Miami Dolphins Prepare for the NFL Draft: Needs and Potential Picks

Guide to the NFL Draft: Dolphins must prioritize shielding Tua Tagovailoa and bolstering defense

The Miami Dolphins ended the 2023 season with a record of 11-6 but fell in the wild-card round. As they prepare for the upcoming NFL Draft, they have draft picks in various rounds, including the first round (No. 21), second round (No. 55), fifth round (No. 158), two picks in the sixth round (No. 184 and No. 198), and a seventh-round pick (No. 241).

As they head into the draft, the Dolphins have identified their top needs as strengthening their offensive line, filling their tight end position, adding depth to their cornerback group and improving defensive line strength. They specifically want to better protect their quarterback Tua Tagovailoa along the offensive line and add youth to their cornerback position. Losing Christian Wilkins to the Raiders has also left a hole in their defensive line that needs to be filled.

In terms of potential draft picks, players like Graham Barton from Duke, Amarius Mims from Georgia, and Terrion Arnold from Alabama are seen as good fits for the Dolphins in the first round. On Day 2 of the draft, players like Ja’Tavion Sanders from Texas, Ennis Rakestraw Jr. from Missouri, and Zach Frazier from West Virginia could be targeted by Miami.

Looking back at last year’s draft performance, the Dolphins only selected four players but received a B grade for it. De’Von Achane was a standout pick for them and will look to replicate that success this year with more selections at their disposal.

Moving forward on a fantasy perspective, Miami is expected to focus on enhancing its offensive and defensive lines rather than its skill positions. With the right draft selections, Miami’s offense could still achieve great heights if they remain healthy. Adding another receiver is always a possibility but with Jonnu Smith added at tight end; that position may not be as high on their list of priorities for this year’s draft.

Overall, Miami’s fantasy outlook after this year’s draft doesn’t seem drastically different than last year’s performance
