Micron Technology Inc. Launches High-Performance 232-Layer QLC NAND Flash Memory in Mass Production for PC Storage Applications

Micron Technology to Begin Mass Production of 200+ Layer QLC NAND

Micron Technology Inc. has announced that its 232-layer QLC NAND flash memory is now in mass production. The memory, which offers improved performance for mobile, client, edge, and data center storage applications, is being shipped to enterprise storage customers and sampled to original equipment PC manufacturers.

The new 232-layer QLC NAND memory is more compact than its predecessors, enabling the creation of thin and light devices. It also has a higher bit-density with NAND I/O speeds of 2400 MT/s, a 50% improvement over the previous generation. Additionally, the new memory provides better read and programming performance compared to the earlier generation.

Micron’s new product offering is the Micron 2500 Client SSD, which integrates the 232-layer QLC NAND to enhance everyday computing and improve the PC user experience. The SSD has shown superior PCMark 10 experience benchmark results, outperforming average scores in the value SSD segment. With this product launch, Micron expects to accelerate QLC adoption in PCs as the industry shifts towards QLC-based storage solutions.

The Micron 2500 SSD offers up to 7.1 GB/s sequential read speeds, surpassing TLC-based NAND and other QLC-based NAND SSDs in the value segment. Its accelerated caching feature enhances read and write performance across various applications, making it an ideal choice for users who demand high performance from their devices. The endurance feature of the new memory allows even smaller SSDs like a 512GB option to support 13 4K movie downloads per day for three years without compromising on performance or durability.

The Micron 2500 SSD is available in several form factors: 22 x 30mm (compact),
